DHAKA, Sept 7, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today granted five-day remand for Zahurul, 32, the prime accused in a case filed over the death of Sub-Inspector (SI) Altaf Hossain, 58, of the Special Branch (SB) of police in Amin Bazar, Savar.

SI Altaf Hossain was beaten to death on September 5 in front of Abul Kalam Azad’s auto rickshaw garage in Bardebi Westpara, Savar.

After hearing the arguments, Senior Judicial Magistrate of Dhaka Ayesha Siddika granted five days of remand as police produced Zahurul before the Dhaka Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court seeking 10 days of remand.

According to the case statement, an argument broke out at around 7:30 pm on September 5 in front of Abul Kalam Azad’s auto garage in Bardebi Westpara, Savar, over the parking of an auto-rickshaw by an individual.

When police officer Md. Altaf Hossain went to intervene and stop the altercation, he came under attack by the accused.

To save his life, he took shelter at his son’s business establishment, ‘Grand Fashion.’ At around 8:10 pm, the accused, armed with locally made weapons, attacked the establishment.

The case statement further said the accused indiscriminately beat Altaf Hossain with iron rods, pipes, hammers and sticks, leaving him critically injured.

When his son Ariful Islam came forward to save him, he was also injured after being attacked with sharp weapons.

The accused also vandalized the establishment, causing damage worth about Tk 500,000, and allegedly stole Tk 220,000 from the cash box.

The injured were later rescued and taken to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared Altaf Hossain dead.

His son was admitted to the hospital in a critical condition.

Later, Altaf Hossain’s wife Sheuly Parvin filed the murder case with Savar Police Station in this connection.
