DHAKA, Feb 23, 2025 (BSS) - Bangla Academy president Prof Abul Quasem Fazlul Huq today said ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had lost her capability to run the country because of her prolonged misrule, oppression, repression and corruption.

"The students and the mass people have ousted the fascist government through the July uprising being inspired with the spirit of Amar Ekushey," he said while addressing a 'shadow parliament' titled 'July uprising has proved that the spirit of Amar Akushey has not gone in
vain" at the Film Development Corporation (FDC) here.

Debate for Democracy organized the event with its chairman Hassan Ahmed Chowdhury Kiron in the chair.

Abul Quasem Fazlul Huq said fascist Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina thought her as the owner of absolute power and ordered to kill innocent people and she also destroyed the judiciary, law enforcement agencies and the administrations.

Enforced disappearance and torturing the political opponents by keeping them into custody was a major crime of the previous government, the Bangla Academy president said, adding that Sheikh Hasina was forced to leave the country on August 5 last year in the face of mass uprising led by the students and the people.

He urged the interim government to bring back Sheikh Hasina from New Delhi under the extradition treaty between India and Bangladesh and put her on trial for the mass killing and crimes against humanity.

In the competition, Dhaka Cantonment Girls Public School and College won in the debate by defeating the team of Saint Joseph Higher Secondary School. Prof Abu Muhammad Rois, Prof Dr Tajul Islam Chowdhury Tuhin, Prof Dr AKM Mazharul Islam, journalists Saidul Islam and Mainul Alam were present at the competition as jurists.

After the competition, chief guest Prof Abul Kashem Fazlul Huq along with the jurists handed over the trophy, crests and certificates to the participants.
