ACC to sue ex-state minister Zahid Ahsan Russel on graft charges

DHAKA, Feb 23, 2025 (BSS) - The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has decided to file a case against former State Minister for Youth and Sports and ex-MP from Gazipur-2 constituency Md  Zahid Ahsan Russel on charges of acquiring assets beyond known sources of income.

ACC Director General (Prevention) Md Akhter Hossain disclosed this in a media briefing today.

He said the ACC investigation found movable and immovable assets worth over Taka 5.74 crore but it got the income sources of over Tk 2.8 crore in the name of Md. Zahid Ahsan Russel while he obtained over Tk 03.65 crore beyond his income sources. 

Besides, Russel has made suspicious and illegal transactions through five bank accounts involving Tk 17 crore, 50 lakh, 65 thousand and 824, inconsistent with the known sources of income.

Apart from this, the ACC investigators found Tk 48.25 lakh in her bank accounts without legal supporting of known income sources. She has acquired through criminal misconduct, abuse of power and dishonest means, the ACC investigation said.
