COX’S BAZAR, May 11, 2025 (BSS) – Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman today said not a single incident of enforced disappearance has taken place since the present government assumed office.

“Not a single false case was filed by the police in the last nine months. A culture of enforced disappearance prevailed in the country for the last couple of years. But not a single incident of enforced disappearance has taken place since the present government assumed office,” he said while addressing as chief guest the closing ceremony of a three-day workshop on public interest litigation (PIL) at a hotel in the town.

The chief law officer of the state, in his speech, said around 4,500 people became victims of extrajudicial killings in the last couple of years, adding, “There are many NGO or NGO personalities who occasionally speak about these, but don’t become insistent in this connection. So, the commitment we need for changing this society comes into question.”

Referring to different statistics presented by BNP, the attorney general further said according to the party, around six million fake cases were filed, where 99 percent of such cases were filed by the police.

Presided over by High Court Justice Md Mozibur Rahman Miah, the function was also addressed by Justice Aynun Nahar Siddiqua, Association for Land Reform and Development (ALRD) executive director Shamsul Huda and Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association (BELA) acting chief executive Taslima Islam, among others.
