DHAKA, June 3, 2025 (BSS) - Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today reaffirmed the government's commitment to ensuring a safe and uninterrupted journey for holiday makers during Eid-ul-Azha.

"We are committed to making the journey to and from Dhaka safe and smooth during Eid-ul-Azha, just as we did during Eid-ul-Fitr," he said after a meeting with transport owners and workers at the Home Ministry in the Bangladesh Secretariat.

The Home Adviser issued a set of instructions to transport owners and workers that included prohibiting overcharging of fares, refraining from operating unfit vehicles, employing skilled drivers, ensuring adequate rest for drivers and taking photographs of all passengers to enhance security.

"Some transport operators charge fares beyond the BRTA-fixed rates and use unfit vehicles, which is completely unacceptable," Jahangir said in response to a question.

The adviser also said they will form a committee comprising representatives from the government, transport owners and workers to oversee and address these issues.

The Home Adviser urged transport owners to photograph all passengers to prevent robberies, ensuring that no dacoits can board vehicles disguised as passengers.

In case of any such incident, he advised all concerned to promptly inform the police and local administration for immediate action.

Police, workers and owners will work together to pursue a safe journey centering the Eid-ul-Azha, he said.

Concerned government officials, representatives from transport owners and workers were present at the meeting.
