Primary teachers suspend ongoing work abstention

DHAKA, Nov 9, 2025 (BSS) - Leaders of primary school teachers have suspended their ongoing work abstention following an assurance from the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education that it will cooperate in realising their demands by informing the Finance Ministry and taking necessary steps as soon as possible.

A meeting between senior officials of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education and leaders of the Primary Teachers' Demand Implementation Council (Prathomik Shikkhak Dabi Bastobayan Parishad) and Primary Assistant Teachers' Unity Council (Prathomik Sohokari Shikkak Sangathan Oikyo Parishad) was held today to discuss various demands of government primary school assistant teachers, said a PID handout today.

Secretary of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education Abu Taher Md Masud Rana presided over the meeting, which was attended by senior ministry officials.

The key demands of the teachers include upgrading the pay scale of assistant teachers from the 13th to the 10th grade, resolving complications regarding higher-grade benefits after 10 and 16 years of service and ensuring 100 percent departmental promotion from assistant teacher to head teacher.
