DHAKA, July 5, 2025 (BSS) – Attorney General Md. Asaduzzaman today said those convicted by the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) for crimes against humanity during the July mass uprising will not compete in the elections.

“The convicts by the International Crimes Tribunal will not take part in the elections,” he said while addressing a debate competition in the shadow parliament on the way to implement the spirit of July mass uprising at FDC in Tejgaon here.

He also said that the tribunal has the jurisdiction to hold trial of the organization involved in crimes against humanity.

“Awami League is the name of a banned entity. Those who are directly and indirectly linked to the organisation, they will be exposed to justice,” he said.

He came down heavily on many civil society members including university teachers, lawyers and journalists for supporting the fallen fascist Awami League government.

“They are still supporting the fascist and they have played a great role in transforming Bangladesh into a fascist country along with the fallen government,” he said.

Asdaduzzaman said the national consensus among the political parties can be established through discussion.

“But, all the political parties are united against the fascist,” he said.

Chairman and Founder Hassan Ahamed Chowdhury Kiron of Debate for Democracy (DFD) presided over the debate competition.

Sher-e-Bangla Agriculture University won the debate competition after defeating Daffodil International University.
