DHAKA, July 7, 2025 (BSS) - Information and Broadcasting Adviser Md. Mahfuj Alam today called for following the spirit of July mass uprising in building a democratic state where civil rights of all will be protected.
He said this at the premiere show of the documentary “Shraban Bidroho”, made on the July Uprising, at the main auditorium of the Bangladesh National Museum in Shahbagh this evening.
Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Professor Dr Asif Nazrul, Housing and Public Works Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan and Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki also spoke on the occasion with Information and Broadcasting Secretary Mahbuba Farzana in the chair.
Managing Director and Chief Editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Mahbub Morshed was present at the event.
Mahfuj Alam said the initiative to exhibit the documentary has been taken to keep the role of the martyrs of the July Uprising in the public memory.
“It is necessary to keep the contribution of the martyrs of the July Uprising in public memory to remind the current generation about their responsibilities,” he said.
Mahfuj Alam called on everyone to remember the sacrifices of the martyrs and work for the welfare of the country.
Speaking on the occasion Prof Asif Nazrul said July will never be forgotten. Regarding the trial of those involved in the July massacre, he said the trial of the killers will be completed before the upcoming national elections.
Adilur Rahman Khan said, “Fascist forces are trying to come back. But their conspiracy must be resisted. He called upon everyone to be vocal so that fascism can never raise its head again.
Mostofa Sarwar Farooki said if there is a political consensus, fascism will not be able to come back. He called on everyone to unite and work for the welfare of the country to implement the purpose for which the martyrs sacrificed their lives in the July Uprising.
Shaheed Abu Sayeed's father Maqbul Hossain and martyred journalist Tahir Zaman Priyo's mother Shamsi Ara Zaman also spoke at the event.
They demanded speedy trial of those involved in the killing of all the martyrs in the uprising.
Relatives of the martyrs and injured in the July Uprising, students, university teachers, government officials and people from different classes and professions were present at the premiere show.
The documentary Shraban Bidhroho has been produced by the Directorate of Film and Publications under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
This documentary, centered on the July Uprising, shows the background of the movement, chronology of the events of July Uprising and change of the consciousness of the students and the common people against the fascist regime.
The documentary presents the memoirs of the relatives of the martyrs, student leaders who participated in the movement, students, and prominent figures of the society and images of torture during the movement.
This 30-minute documentary includes rare videos, still photographs and graffiti from the movement, which are living documents of the July Uprising.
The documentary brings to life the cruelty of the law enforcement agencies and repression of the then dictator, sometimes through direct visualization, sometimes with the help of animation.
Shraban Bidroho is not just a documentary, it is a document of time, which will tell the story of a successful mass uprising to future generations, speakers said.
