EC begins hearings on demarcation disputes in Khulna, Barisal, Chattogram constituencies

DHAKA, August 25, 2025 (BSS) - As part of preparations for the 13th National Parliamentary Election, the Election Commission (EC) today entered its second day of hearings on demarcation objections related to constituencies in the Khulna, Barisal, and Chattogram regions.

The hearing began at 10:00 am in the auditorium of the Election Commission Building in the capital's Agargaon, with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A M M Nasir Uddin in the chair. The hearing will continue until 5:00 pm. Election commissioners and the secretary of the EC Secretariat joined the hearing.

At the outset, the hearings were held on claims and objections related to the Satkhira-3, 4 and Jessore-3, 6 constituencies followed by hearings on Bagerhat-1, 2, and 3 constituencies, which will continue until 12:30 pm.

Lawyers are presenting the claims and objections on behalf of the applicants regarding the re-demarcation of the parliamentary constituencies. In addition, the applicants themselves are also participating in the hearing. 

The EC is listening to both sides on the claims and objections and is assuring impartial resolution according to law and regulations.

On the other hand, from 2:30 pm to 5:00 pm, hearings will be held on the constituencies of Jhalokathi-1, Barguna-1, 2, Pirojpur-1, 2, 3, Chattogram-3, 5, 8, 19, Khagrachhari, Rangamati, and Bandarban.

Earlier, on Sunday, the first day, the EC resolved claims and objections regarding the re-demarcation of 18 parliamentary constituencies across 6 districts in the Cumilla region.

Officials from the EC Secretariat said that on Sunday, a total of 811 applications were resolved, which included 429 objections and 382 suggestions regarding the re-demarcated boundaries.

At the beginning of Sunday's hearing, CEC A M M Nasir Uddin said, "We have tried to work professionally and impartially. The opportunity for claims and objections on the draft boundaries has been provided according to the law."

He added, "We have taken your applications into consideration. Now, present the logical points in the hearing."

Tomorrow, hearings on claims and objections from the Dhaka region will be held. From 10:00 am to 12:30 pm, hearings will take place for Manikganj 1, 2, 3, Narsingdi 4 and 5, Narayanganj 3, 4, 5, while from 2:30 pm to 5:00 pm, hearings will be held on Dhaka 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 14, 15, 16, 18, and 19 constituencies.

On August 27, hearings on claims and objections from Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Faridpur, and Sylhet regions will be conducted. On that day, from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm, hearings will be held on Panchagarh 1, 2, Rangpur 1, Kurigram 4, Sirajganj 2, 5, 6, and Pabna 1.

Besides, from 2:30 pm to 5:00 pm, hearings will be held on Tangail 6, Jamalpur 2, Kishoreganj 1, Sylhet 1, Faridpur 1, 4, Madaripur 2, 3, Shariatpur 2, and 3 constituencies. 

After the hearings, the EC's legal division will inform the concerned parties of the verdicts.

As of August 10, a total of 1,760 claims and objections regarding the boundaries of 83 constituencies had been submitted to the EC. The final boundaries will be published by the EC after resolving these.
