DHAKA, Nov 1, 2025 (BSS) - Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today congratulated the members of the National Consensus Commission for successfully completion of their task of holding continuous dialogues with all active political parties and reaching a consensus leading to formulation of the July National Charter and its implementation roadmap.

The Chief Adviser extended the appreciation in a statement issued by his Press Wing here tonight.

The commission, headed by the Chief Adviser, was formed on February 12 this year with the objective of laying the foundation for a permanent and accountable state through essential structural reforms.

The commission’s tenure ended on Friday (October 31).

“The July National Charter is a historic achievement and a valuable document of our nation. It will not only pave the way for the upcoming national election but also serve as a future guide for the national politics and help consolidate our democracy,” the Chief Adviser said.

Expressing optimism regarding democratic reforms, he said, “The people of Bangladesh aspire to witness changes that will nurture democratic culture, ensure that no form of autocracy can ever return, and guarantee comprehensive national development, protecting the rights and dignity of all citizens.”

Professor Yunus said, “The most positive thing is that we ourselves have worked on these reform processes and have agreed upon them. No one from outside has imposed any decision on us. We have seen that foreigners used to come as mediators in all the political dialogues that have taken place in Bangladesh at various times in the past”.

“UN representatives, including friendly countries, have tried to bring the political parties of Bangladesh to one table. However, after the July Uprising, the political parties of Bangladesh have agreed that we have to solve our own crisis ourselves, he added.

“That’s why all the political parties have come together, participated in the political debate and shown us the way towards solution. Instead of inviting the world community to solve the political crisis in Bangladesh, we ourselves have presented our national unity to the world community,” the Chief Adviser said.

Professor Yunus specially thanked all the political parties of the country and their leaders, saying, “On behalf of the nation, I express my gratitude to all the leaders of the political parties who worked tirelessly to formulate this charter and made the impossible possible.”

Noting that this July National Charter is a unique example for the whole world, he said, “No such incident has happened anywhere else in the world. This will be a shining event in the political history of the world. Other countries of the world will also consider forming a 'consensus commission' as a step towards nation-building in times of crisis.”

The Chief Adviser thanked Commission Vice-Chairman Professor Ali Riaz, members Dr Badiul Alam Majumder, Dr Iftekharuzzaman, Safar Raj Hossain, Justice Md Emdadul Haque and Dr Mohammad Ayub Mia and Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor on National Consensus Building Process Monir Haider for their contributions towards consensus building.

In addition, he also expressed his gratitude to the media representatives who covered the long discussion for months and conveyed all the activities of the Consensus Commission to the people in simple language.

The Chief Adviser said, “We all have to remember that the unprecedented unity we have among ourselves must be upheld in the state reform process as because the fascist group has engaged all of its strength to divide this nation.”

In this connection, he said, “For the past 15 months, we have faced their conspiracies unitedly...To defeat fascism and save this country, there is no alternative to uphold national unity,” Professor Yunus said.

“We have big challenges ahead of us in building the future of this country...These challenges cannot be thwart by a single person, a single organization, a single agency, or a single government.”

Laying emphasis on forging greater unity among all political parties and factions to meet these challenges, the Chief Adviser categorically said, “Unity must be maintained no matter how much the adversities come.”
