DHAKA, Dec 1, 2025 (BSS) – Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul today said the government would extend maximum cooperation to facilitate BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman to return home.

“I am not aware of any legal bar preventing BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman from coming back to Bangladesh. Even if there is any obstacle, we will provide full cooperation. We will also ensure maximum cooperation regarding his security,” he told reporters.

Asif Nazrul made this remarks while responding to questions from journalists amid renewed discussions surrounding the possibility of Tarique Rahman’s return.

The law adviser said, “I personally believe that he (Tarique Rahman) has the best ability to determine what the appropriate time is. I am confident that he will return to the country at the time he considers appropriate.”

Asif Nazrul said, “Many of us make various remarks and raise questions about why he is not returning. I find such questions very distasteful. This is a mother–son relationship. Whether Begum Khaleda Zia has given any instruction, or whether Tarique Rahman has any personal considerations- I do not find it appropriate to pre-judge or comment on these matters.”

He further said, “We must understand that this is a mother–son relationship. They themselves best understand when he should return and exactly when certain steps should be taken.”
