DHAKA, Dec 18, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Supreme Court Day is being observed today through various programmes on the premises of the apex court.
 
Marking the occasion, the Supreme Court has organised a special discussion meeting at the Supreme Court Auditorium at 4 pm today. Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed will attend the programme as the chief guest.
 
Judges of the Appellate Division and the High Court Division of the Supreme Court, the attorney general, the president and the acting secretary of the Supreme Court Bar Association, the vice chairman of the Bar Council, guests, as well as officials of the Supreme Court Registry and the Supreme Court Secretariat, will also be present at the discussion.
 
The decision to observe December 18 each year as Bangladesh Supreme Court Day was taken unanimously at a full court meeting held on October 25, 2017, to commemorate the day when, in accordance with the constitution of independent Bangladesh, the country's higher judiciary first began functioning on December 18, 1972.
 
Since then, the day has been observed annually. This year marks the ninth observance of Bangladesh Supreme Court Day.
