BARISHAL, Feb 22, 2026 (BSS) - Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan today said a culture of accountability must be established to ensure good governance in the country.

He made these remarks today while speaking as the chief guest at a views-exchange meeting and iftar mahfil with government officials and employees working under the Gournadi upazila administration at the Upazila Parishad auditorium.

Swapan said the practice of independence in the legislative and judiciary branches must be ensured.

There is no alternative to establishing the rule of law in its true sense in the country, he said adding instead of concentrating all powers in one place, authority should be decentralized in state governance.

The minister said this would enhance accountability and transparency and further strengthen the democratic structure.

Gournadi Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Ibrahim chaired the event while officials and employees from various departments of the upazila administration, freedom fighters, and leaders of the district and upazila units of the BNP were present at the event.
