Govt to ensure free Wi-Fi at airports, railway stations: ICT Minister

TANGAIL, Feb 27, 2026 (BSS) - Posts, Telecommunications and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam today said the government will introduce free Wi-Fi facilities at all airports, railway stations and high-speed vehicles across the country.

"The ICT sector is currently the most important sector and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has undertaken extensive plans for its further development. In line with the Prime Minister's directives, steps will be taken to provide free Wi-Fi services at all airports, railway stations and high-speed vehicles," he said.

The minister made the remarks after exchanging views with district-level officials at the Tangail Deputy Commissioner's office around 11:30am today.

He said the government is working to implement various development activities, modernise the communication system and implement future plans in the information technology sector.

"We want to ensure internet connectivity at every household and create greater employment opportunities in the ICT sector," he said.

During the meeting, Anam provided directives on ongoing development programmes, modernisation of communication infrastructure and progress in the ICT sector. 

He also called upon the concerned departments to work in a coordinated manner to implement future plans effectively.

Tangail Deputy Commissioner Sharifa Haque, Superintendent of Police Mohammad Shamsul Alam Sarkar, Additional Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Kumar Mahanta, Additional District Magistrate Mahabub Hasan, Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate Labibuzzaman Mustabeen and heads of various district-level offices were present, among others.
