DHAKA, Feb 27, 2026 (BSS) – The Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) of Bangladesh Police has filed a charge sheet against 25 people, including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, former ministers Obaidul Quader and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, in a case lodged over the murder of Abujar Sheikh in the capital’s Pragati Sarani area during the July Mass Uprising.

ATU Sub-Inspector Israil Hossain submitted the charge sheet on February 18, alleging that the accused, in collusion with one another and with common intention, formed an unlawful assembly and, in pursuit of their shared objective, used force and violence. By remaining present at the scene and instigating the act, they facilitated the commission of the killing. Therefore, offences under Sections 143/326/302/114/109/34 of the Penal Code have been found prima facie to be established against them.

Sub-Inspector Moktar Hossain, general registration officer of Gulshan Police Station, confirmed the matter today.

Other prominent accused include Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Mohammad A Arafat, Mirza Azam, and Justice Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik.

According to the case documents, on the evening of July 19, 2024, an anti-discrimination student-public procession was underway in front of Baridhara General Hospital on Pragati Sarani in Gulshan. At that time, local leaders of the Awami League and Jubo League allegedly opened fire on the procession.

Abujar Sheikh was shot during the incident and was first admitted to Evercare Hospital. He was later transferred to Dhaka Metropolitan Hospital for advanced treatment. He died on July 27 of the same year while undergoing treatment.

Following the incident, on November 16, 2024, Abujar Sheikh’s mother, Chobi Khatun, filed a murder case with Gulshan Police Station. A total of 27 people, including Sheikh Hasina, were initially named as accused in the case.

After completing the investigation, SI Israil Hossain of the ATU submitted the charge sheet on February 18, 2026, against 25 accused.
