Court orders attachment of ex-minister Saifuzzaman's UK properties

DHAKA, Feb 26, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today ordered the attachment of immovable properties in the United Kingdom including flats worth of œ1.23 million owned by former Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the order, allowing a petition of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

According to the petition, Saifuzzaman Chowdhury and his associates and affiliated entities own substantial properties in different areas of the United Kingdom, including London. The ACC stated that attachment of these assets is necessary in the interest of investigating allegations of money laundering.

A special taskforce comprising members of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Criminal Investigation Department (CID), and National Board of Revenue (NBR) is working on the investigation into the money laundering allegations against the accused and his associates.

Investigation documents include agreements for purchasing overseas properties, deeds, payment orders, booking money receipts, cheques and vouchers. A preliminary list of properties located in various parts of the UK has also been submitted to the court.

The listed properties include an apartment worth œ6,521,000 at Marylebone Square in London, several flats at Oval Village, a property worth œ1.23 million on Clarendon Road, and multiple units at One Islington Plaza in Liverpool.

Information regarding additional properties in Harrow, Slough and Preston was also placed before the court.
