JASHORE, Feb 26, 2026 (BSS) - Cheques amounting to Taka 5.86 crore were distributed to the families of road accident victims in Jashore, Magura, and Jhenaidah districts.

The cheque was handed over during a special ceremony organized by the BRTA Trustee Board at Jashore District Shilpakala Academy auditorium this afternoon.

The event was graced by BRTA Chairman Abu Momtaz Saad Uddin Ahmed as the chief guest.

Additional District Magistrate Irufa Sultana chaired the event, which was attended by BRTA Assistant Director Debashish Biswas, Additional Superintendent of Police Abul Bashar, and Jashore Press Club President Zahid Hasan Tukun, among others.

A total of 150 families, including 69 from Jashore, 62 from Jhenaidah and 19 from Magura, received the financial assistance. The BRTA highlighted that the amount allocated to these families was part of ongoing efforts to support those who have suffered losses due to road accidents.

In his speech, BRTA Chairman Abu Momtaz Saad Uddin Ahmed said that the BRTA is working on a new regulation that would require the provision of two BSTI-approved helmets with each new motorcycle sold. This proposal, which has been approved by the BRTA, is now awaiting approval from the government.

The BRTA Chairman further expressed that providing financial aid to the families of accident victims is both a legal and humanitarian responsibility. He added that such assistance is crucial in helping the affected families recover and regain stability in their lives.
