India envoy calls on Liberation War Affairs Minister

DHAKA, March 3, 2026 (BSS) - Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Pranay Verma today called on Liberation War Affairs Minister Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Bir Bikram, at his office.

During the meeting, they exchanged views on various issues of mutual interest, including the Great Liberation War.

The minister shared his personal experiences of the Liberation War, highlighting his active participation and the challenging moments he faced during the war.

He noted that the unwavering support extended by the government and people of India during Bangladesh's Liberation War in 1971 played a crucial role in achieving the country's independence. 

He expressed his sincere gratitude to the government and people of India for their support.
The minister emphasized on the need to further strengthen the people-to-people connectivity between Bangladesh and India.

He said India is a close neighbor of Bangladesh and that Bangladesh is keen to make bilateral relations more robust and multidimensional on the basis of mutual respect, trust and cooperation.

The Indian High Commissioner said that one of the foundations of India's diplomacy is a people-centric approach, mutual respect and mutual trust. 

He stressed the importance of presenting the true history of the Liberation War properly to the younger generation.

Liberation War Affairs Secretary Israt Chowdhury was present at the meeting.
