
CHATTOGRAM, March 27, 2026 (BSS) - A ship carrying 62,150 tons of wheat from the United States arrived at the outer berth of Chattogram port today.
The wheat was imported under a Memorandum of Understanding between the Bangladesh government and the United States.
This shipment follows a previous delivery of 58,457 tons of wheat under the same agreement.
Chattogram Port Authority Secretary Syed Refayet Hamim confirmed that port authority has begun testing samples of the wheat on the ship and has taken necessary measures for its quick discharge.
The wheat shipment on the ship will be divided as follows: 37,290 tons will be unloaded at Chattogram port, and the remaining 24,860 tons will be offloaded at Mongla port.
Sources said a total of 467,884 metric tons of wheat have arrived in the country through a government-to-government (G2G) agreement. Under this agreement, 237,845 metric tons and 230,039 metric tons of wheat have been imported separately. The country's annual wheat demand is approximately 70 lakh tons, while domestic production is around 10 lakh tons. To meet the remaining demand, both the government and the private sector import wheat from overseas.
