DHAKA, April 9, 2026 (BSS) - The by-election in Bogura-6 constituency and general election in Sherpur-3 constituency began today at 7:30 am.

The voting will continue till 4:30 pm.

Although voting is being held, there will be no referendum in these two constituencies as the 'Yes' vote won by a huge margin in the national parliament elections.

Earlier, on Wednesday, Senior Secretary of the EC Secretariat Akhtar Hossain said the Election Commission (EC) has already completed all the necessary work for holding the elections smoothly and there is no security threat.

BNP candidate Md. Rezaul Karim Badsha, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Md. Abidur Rahman and Bangladesh Development Party candidate Md. Al-Amin Talukder are contesting in by-election in Bogura-6 seat.

Bougra-6 constituency has a total of 150 polling stations, 835 polling booths and a total of 450,309 voters.

On the other hand, BNP's Md. Mahmudul Haque Rubel, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Md. Masudur Rahman Masud and BASAD candidate Md. Mizanur Rahman are contesting in election in Sherpur-3 constituency.

This constituency has 128 polling stations, 751 polling booths and 409,806 voters.

According to EC sources, adequate security measures have been taken at the polling stations of the two constituencies. Some 36 executive and judicial magistrates are deployed in the polls.

In addition, there are 18 of the commission's own observers and about 400 observers from local organisations.

The commission officials are on duty as returning and assistant returning officers. In addition, about 5,000 polling officers are deployed, including presiding, assistant presiding and polling officers.

Keeping in mind the convenience of the voters, the Election Commission has introduced two easy methods for the first time to know the voter number and polling station information ahead of the general and by-elections of these two constituencies.

Those two methods are - Smart Election Management BD App and Hotline Number -105.

Following those, one can easily get various necessary information including polling stations.

Earlier, in the 13th national election held on February 12, when BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman was elected to the Dhaka-17 constituency, he gave up his second constituency Bogura-6.

On the other hand, on February 3, after the election schedule was announced, the election of Sherpur 3 constituency was postponed due to the death of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Nuruzzaman Badal.

Later, the EC announced the schedule for the by-elections and general elections for the two constituencies.
