KHULNA, Apr 8, 2026 (BSS) –Administrator of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Nazrul Islam Manju said efforts are underway to transform Khulna into a green, clean and dust-free city, and he urged the citizens’ cooperation in achieving the goal.

He also highlighted ongoing initiatives to resolve water logging and a planned project for the development of slum dwellers.

He made the remarks as the chief guest at a roundtable titled “Strengthening Social Protection Programmes for Climate-Induced Migrants and Internally Displaced People” was held today at the conference room of Caritas Bangladesh regional office in Khulna.

Emphasizing action over discussion, he said addressing climate change impacts requires collective efforts. He noted that steps are being taken to regulate the growing number of easy bikes in the city and stressed the need for rehabilitation plans for people affected by cyclones and river erosion.

KCC Chief Executive Officer Rajib Ahmed spoke as special guest, while Regional Director of Caritas Khulna Albino Nath delivered the welcome speech.

Assistant Professor of Disaster Management Institute (KUET) Dr Mohammad Ismail Hossain presented the keynote paper. Caritas Technical Specialist Emmanuel Chayan Biswas also spoke.

Speakers observed that despite policy emphasis on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Climate Change Adaptation (CCA), a coordinated approach to protecting displaced populations remains lacking.

The roundtable aimed at fostering  policy dialogue among government, development partners, researchers and civil society, and to identify ways to expand social protection coverage for displaced communities, enhance coordination among DRR-CCA-social protection frameworks, and formulate inclusive, climate-resilient policy recommendations.

Officials from government and non-government organisations, students, journalists, NGO representatives and community leaders attended the programme.
