
DHAKA, April 8, 2026 (BSS) – Bangladesh reiterated its request to extradite deposed Sheikh Hasina and her home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal to Bangladesh from India, who have been awarded the death penalty by the International Crimes Tribunal during talks in New Delhi today.
Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman held meetings with Indian External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar and Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, alongside separate talks with National Security Adviser Ajit Doval following his arrival in the Indian capital, according to a statement issued by the Bangladesh foreign ministry here this evening.

Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humaiun Kobir and Bangladesh High Commissioner to India M Riaz Hamidullah were present at the meetings.
During the discussions, both sides emphasised advancing bilateral relations across multiple sectors and exchanged views on regional and international developments.
Dr Rahman said the newly elected BNP government, led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, would pursue its foreign policy based on the principle of “Bangladesh First” and grounded in mutual trust, respect and reciprocal benefit.
He thanked the Indian government for apprehending the suspected killers of Shaheed Osman Hadi, noting that both sides agreed the arrested individuals would be returned to Bangladesh in line with the extradition treaty.
The Indian side indicated that visa services for Bangladeshis, particularly for medical and business purposes, would be eased in the coming weeks.
Dr Rahman also expressed appreciation for India’s recent supply of diesel and requested an increase in the volume of diesel and fertiliser exports to Bangladesh.
Minister Puri said the government of India would consider the request positively.
The two sides also agreed to continue consultations on key bilateral issues to further strengthen cooperation.
