20 detained over illegal sand extraction in Manikganj

DHAKA, April 8, 2026 (BSS) - Twenty miscreants were detained along with four dredgers and two bulkheads while illegally extracting sand in Manikganj.

Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan, media officer of the Coast Guard, confirmed the matter this morning.

On information, a special operation was conducted at around 1:00 pm on Tuesday by the Coast Guard temporary contingents of Paturia and Rajbari in the areas adjacent to Daulatpur and Baghutia in Manikganj.

During the drive, 20 miscreants were detained along with four dredgers and two bulkheads while they were extracting sand illegally from the area.

He further added that among the detainees, four were minors, and they were released after taking written undertakings.

The seized dredgers, bulkheads, and the detained individuals have been handed over to the Paturia River Police for further legal action.

He also stated that the Coast Guard will continue such operations in the future to protect agricultural land and residential areas from illegal sand extractors.
