74 measles cases detected in Khulna division, death toll rises to 4

KHULNA, April 8, 2026 (BSS) - The number of patients infected with measles is
steadily increasing across the 10 districts and city corporation areas of
Khulna division, with 74 new patients admitted to different hospitals on
Wednesday.

According to the latest data from the health department, a total of 362
measles cases have been detected in the division from January 1 to April 8,
over a period of three months and seven days. So far, four people have died
in Kushtia district.

Among the death, one died on April 2, two on April 3, and another on the
night of April 5.

Analysis of daily reports from the Divisional Health Director's Office shows
that out of the total infected, 288 are previous cases. As of 5:30 pm today,
74 new cases were added.

Health officials warned that measles is taking a contagious turn in the
region.

District-wise data indicate that Kushtia remains the worst-affected area,
with a total of 109 cases, including 25 new infections reported today.
Jashore reported three new cases, raising its total to 76.

Among other districts, Bagerhat recorded 17 new cases (total 21), Chuadanga 2
(total 8), Jhenaidah 4 (total 6), Khulna district has 4 previous cases, while
Khulna City Corporation reported 6 new cases (total 68). Magura added 10 new
cases (total 45), Meherpur 2 (total 12), Narail has 21 previous cases, and
Satkhira reported 5 new cases (total 13).

No new cases were reported today in Khulna and Narail districts.

Divisional Health Director Dr Mujibur Rahman said the data were collected
from district hospitals, upazila health complexes, medical college hospitals,
and other healthcare facilities. The compiled daily report is sent to Dhaka
after 5:30 pm.

He added that Kushtia, Jashore, and Khulna City Corporation are currently
leading in terms of infection number.
