Govt, BSK to jointly develop reading habit among students

DHAKA, April 23, 2026 (BSS) - The government has decided to work jointly with Bishwa Shahitya Kendra (BSK) to promote reading habit among students in the country.

The decision was taken at a meeting between Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and BSK founder Professor Abdullah Abu Sayeed at Prime Minister’s Cabinet Division office at Bangladesh Secretariat here today.

“The meeting discussed the ways to develop the habit of reading books among students at primary, secondary, and higher secondary levels,” said Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary Jahidul Islam Rony.

At the meeting, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman instructed all concerned to develop the habit of reading books among students.

The meeting discussed the ways in details to expand the book reading programme among students across the country.

Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon, Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury, State Minister for Cultural Affairs Ali Newaz Mahmood Khyom, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj, Prime Minister’s advisers Mahdi Amin and Dr Zahed Ur Rahman, and senior officials of the concerned ministries were present.

Earlier, Professor Abu Sayeed met the Prime Minister on April 7. At that meeting, the issue of joint work between the government and Bishwa Shahitya Kendra (BSK) on the book reading programme was discussed.
