Govt decides to reopen 6 jute mills under private initiative: Jute Minister

DHAKA, April 23, 2026 (BSS) - Textiles and Jute Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir today said the government has decided to reopen six jute mills under private initiative within the next 6 months.

He revealed this information at a press conference held at his ministry conference room at the secretariat this morning.

Earlier in the day, an emergency meeting was held with stakeholders on closed jute mills, factory reopening and leasing at the ministry's meeting room.

State Minister for Textiles and Jute Md Shariful Alam and BIDA Chairman Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun were, among others, present at the meeting.

At a press conference, the textiles and jute minister said the government has decided to reopen or lease the remaining closed jute mills in phases.

He said the reopen of jute mills will increase investment and exports and create employment.
