DHAKA, April 23, 2026 (BSS)- The bus fares in Dhaka and Chattogram metropolitan areas and inter-district routes have been increased by 11 paisa per kilometre, Road Transport, Railways and Shipping Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam said today.

The government has adjusted the bus fares in the aftermath of fuel price hike, he told a press conference at the Secretariat here this afternoon.

The minister said the new fares will come into from today and the bus fare will be adjusted in the future once the price of fuel increases or decreases.

Bus fares in Dhaka and Chattogram metropolitan areas have been increased to Taka 2.53 from Taka 2.42.

Fares of inter-district and long-distance buses have been increased to Taka 2.23 from Taka 2.12. In addition, in the Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA) area, the bus fare has been increased to Taka 2.43 per kilometre from Taka 2.32.

The minimum fares for buses and mini-buses in Dhaka and Chattogram cities will remain Taka 10 and Taka 8 respectively.

Rabiul Alam said due to the increase in fuel price, the Bus Fare Re-fixation Committee, led by the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), proposed increasing the bus fares by 22 paisa per kilometre but today the fare has been increased by 11 paisa.

"I wouldn't call it a fare hike, it could be called an adjustment because a fixed fare has already been set across the country. Now, only 11 paisa will be added to the previous fares,” he said.

The minister said the ministry will issue a notification regarding the adjustment of bus fares today.

Legal action will be taken against anyone who charges extra fares than that of the government fixed today.
