Ex-NBR member Matiur's wife Laila to be interrogated at jail gate

DHAKA, Jan 26, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today ordered the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to interrogate former upazila chairman Laila Kaniz, wife of former member of National Board of Revenue (NBR) Matiur Rahman, for one day.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order after holding hearing on a plea to take Laila on a seven-day remand.

Detective Branch (DB) of police on January 15 arrested Matiur Rahman and his wife Laila Kaniz from the city's Bashundhara area. She was produced before the court on that day and the police pleaded to place her on a seven-day remand. Laila's counsel, however, argued for her bail.

The court on that day had fixed January 19 for holding hearing on the matter. On January 19, the court scrapped Laila Kaniz's bail plea and had set today to hold hearing on the remand plea.

According to the case documents, Laila Kaniz amassed illegal wealth of Taka 13 crore and concealed information about wealth of Taka 1.53 crore.
