Ex-state minister Enamur sent to jail in hawker killing case

DHAKA, Feb 2, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sent to jail former state 
minister for disaster management and relief Dr Md Enamur Rahman in a case 
lodged over the killing of hawker Sagor in the city's Mirpur area during the 
student-led July-August mass-uprising.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saifuzzaman passed the order as police produced 
Enamur before the court after the end of his six-day remand in the case and 
pleaded to keep him behind the bars till end of probe.

A court here on January 27 placed the former state minister on a six-day 
remand in the case.

Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested Dr Md Enamur Rahman from the city's 
Bhatara area in the early hours of that day (January 27).

According to the case documents, Sagor joined anti-discrimination student 
rally in the Mirpur-10 intersection area on July 19. The rally was attacked 
by police and Awami League cadres around 4pm. Sagor got shot and died on the 
spot.

On November 27, 2024 Sagor's sister Beauty Akter filed the case against 242 
people including the ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
