DHAKA, Feb 9, 2025 (BSS) –Agriculture Adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today called for protecting agricultural land in the country to increase agricultural related production for meeting the demand of the ever rising population.

"All institutions under the Ministry of Agriculture should think about protecting agricultural land while taking up projects.

Agricultural land should be destroyed in no way while setting up establishments," he said.

Since the country's independence, the agricultural sector has been the most successful one till to date. Land will not be increased but the population will continue to increase.

So, agricultural production must be increased," he said while speaking at the inauguration programme of the newly constructed 'Mrittika Bhaban' of Soil Resources Development Institute in capital's Farmgate as the chief guest.

To reduce imports of agricultural products including oil, pulses and chickpeas, the adviser stressed on boosting the agricultural production in the country.

He urged all to encourage farmers to cultivate these unconventional but necessary crops in their lands.

He emphasized on planting fruit trees in the hilly areas along with forestation.

Regarding the price of vegetables in the market, the adviser said that when there is no season and during the transit from one season to another, the price of the vegetable market remains  high.

To overcome this problem, cold storages with low capacity are being built to preserve vegetables and fruits, the adviser added.
