DIG Molla Nazrul on 5-day remand in murder attempt case

DHAKA, Feb 9, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today placed former Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Molla Nazrul Islam on a five-day remand in a case lodged over the attempt to murder a college-student Fahim Hossain Zubayer during the July-August mass uprising.

Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sanaullah passed the order as police produced the accused before the court and pleaded to place him on a seven-day remand in the case.

Molla Nazrul Islam, former commissioner of Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP), was detained from Bangladesh Police Academy in Sardah, Rajshahi, last night.

According to the case documents, Fahim Hossain Zubayer, 20, joined an anti-discrimination student rally in Gulshan on July 22, 2024. The rally came under attack, many including Zubayer got shot. 

His father Md Humayun Kabir filed the case with the Gulshan Police Station on October 5.
