MUNSHIGANJ, Feb 10 (BSS) - The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Dr. Mohammad Abdul Momen today said that corruption can be reduced largely if the public employees have proper knowledge about the procurement process as large part of major corruption is linked to it.

“Corruption will be reduced to a large extent if we are aware of the procurement process, market price and requirements,” he said.

He was speaking to the journalists after inaugurating a 15-day training workshop on government procurement policy for ACC officials at the seminar room of Bangladesh Engineer Staff College in Char Baushia area of Gazaria, Munshiganj.

Mentioning that the main source of major corruption is the procurement process, Momen said, “If we are aware of its requirements while making purchases, corruption will be reduced to a great extent.”

About corruption in the health sector, the ACC Chairman said that there have been numerous reports of corruption in procurement in the sector.

“In some places, goods were purchased at anomalous high prices, and in other cases, the low-quality goods were purchased which cannot be used no more, ” he said.

This training program is developed to enhance the skills of ACC officials on the issue. Thirty officials, including ACC’s assistant director and deputy assistant director participated in the training.

Replying to a question whether the ACC will take any measures to bring back those who have fled abroad due to corruption, he said, “It is a long process, but we will try to bring them back to the country and make them to face justice.”

The Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) President Engineer Mohammad Reazul Islam Rizu presided over the function. IEB's Director General (Training and Information Technology) Akter Hossain attended it as special guest.
