UN Human Rights Office to hold news conference on Bangladesh protests Feb 13

DHAKA, Feb 10, (2025) - The UN Human Rights Office will hold news conference on Human Rights Violations and Abuses related to the protests of July and August 2024 in Bangladesh.

The press conference will be held at the Palais des Nations in Geneva on Thursday (February 13) at 09:30 local time (14.30BST), according to a release received here today.

It said that the report and a news release will be issued prior to the news conference. High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk will deliver opening remarks. 

During the press conference, the UN Human Rights Office will also launch the OHCHR Fact-Finding Report: Human Rights Violations and Abuses related to the Protests of July and August 2024 in Bangladesh.

It added the other panelists will be Rory Mungoven, Chief of the Asia-Pacific Section, Jyotsna Poudyal, Human Rights Officer, and Ravina Shamdasani, Chief Spokesperson.

The news conference will be broadcast live on UN Web TV for those wishing to listen only, according to the release.

“For those journalists based in Bangladesh who would like to ask a question, you must register your interest with Tara Jayaram (via the Microsoft Form linked here) by Wednesday 13:00 Dhaka time to be able to access the news conference via Zoom. Access is strictly limited to journalists,” it said.

It added that a link to the Zoom of the press conference will be shared one hour prior to the start of the news conference to the registered journalists. 

Journalists must also ensure their full name and news organization, which will be included on the Zoom profile to ensure entry to news conference room, it further said.
