Dhaka wants to enhance cooperation with Uruguay

Dhaka, Feb 10, 2025 (BSS) – Foreign Secretary Md. Jashim Uddin has lauded the increased interaction between Bangladesh and Uruguay and expressed Dhaka’s willingness to enhance further political and economic relations with the Latin American nation.
 
He made the remark when non-resident Ambassador of Uruguay accredited to Bangladesh Alberto A. Guani paid a courtesy call on him at foreign ministry here on Sunday, said a press release here today. 

During the meeting, Ambassador Guani briefed about the initiatives and achievements of the Uruguay Embassy since his presentation of credentials in 2024. 

He opined to formulating new strategy to strengthen bilateral relations based on innovation and technology. 

He highlighted that both the nations champion economic diplomacy and informed that Uruguay is globally renowned for its cutting-edge technology and development in ICT, manufacturing and renewable energy. 

Referring to the goals and objectives of the Interim Government to reform and hold a free and fair election, the foreign secretary mentioned the current government is working relentlessly to rebuild the nation on a foundation that truly serves the public interest. 

Focusing primarily on economic and trade related matters, he also emphasized on regular bilateral Political Consultation regarding which both Bangladesh and Uruguay have agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). 

The Foreign Secretary referred to the potential in trade and investment in Bangladesh highlighting the demographic dividend, suitable investment facilities, vast pool of fresh graduates, favourable culture of freelancing. 

He also advised exchange of trade and business delegations to this end.
