DHAKA, Feb 23, 2025 (BSS) - Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has requesting all not to drive on wrong side and rickshaws on unauthorized roads.

DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md Sajjat Ali in a public notice issued yesterday said it is often observed that motorized and non-motorized rickshaws are running on the wrong side of various city roads.

Rickshaws are seen plying on the main city roads which are off-limit for rickshaws.

In almost of the cases, rickshaw passengers insist the rickshaw pullers to go on the wrong direction, disrupting normal traffic movement, increasing traffic congestion and causing accidents.

Sometimes, the passengers and drivers lock in unwanted arguments with the traffic police and members of the traffic assistance group (TAG).

In that situation, it becomes obligatory for on duty police personnel to take legal action against the troublemakers on charge of committing criminal offence.

The public notice further stated that, motorcycle and auto-rickshaws (CNG-run) are also seen plying on the wrong side of the city roads.

Due to vehicular movement on the wrong side, road accidents are occurring frequently along with increasing the traffic congestion.

In many cases passengers/drivers obstruct the enforcement agencies from taking legal measures, the notice said.

Some vehicles carrying the nameplates of various government offices, professional identities plying on the wrong side and park the vehicles on the roads recklessly.

The notice requested rickshaw passengers, rickshaw pullers, motorcyclists and other drivers of the public and private offices not to drive on the wrong side of the road.

Appropriate legal action will be taken against those who will disobey the order, the notice warned seeking everyone's cooperation in this regard.
