Claim of rape on moving bus not true: home ministry

DHAKA, Feb 25, 2025 (BSS) - Home Affairs Ministry today said the claim of rape on a Rajshahi-bound moving bus on the night of February 17 is not true.

"(Claim of) Rape incident on Rajshahi-bound moving bus 'Unique Road Royals' from Dhaka on the night of February 17 is not true," reads a press release of the ministry issued here.

It said, "This information was revealed by analyzing the statement of a female passenger of the bus in a video clip received from the Superintendent of Police of Tangail. In the video clip, a female passenger of the bus is seen saying, "There was a robbery on the bus, but no rape took place." It can be seen that the female passenger presented her statement openly."

Female passenger Lipi Barman, 20, daughter of Dwijen Chandra Barman and wife of Rajkumar, hailed from Helencha village of Mahadevpur Upazila in Naogaon district.
