DHAKA, March 7, 2025 (BSS) - The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested three members of the banned organisation Hizb ut-Tahrir from the capital's Uttara area.

The detainees were identified as Monirul Islam, 40, Mohtasin Billah, 40, and Mahmudul Hasan, 21, said a DMP media release here today.

On Thursday night, acting on a tip-off, an operation team of the CTTC came to know that some active Hizb ut-Tahrir members of Uttara Sector-11 and Sector-12 under Uttara West Police Station were clandestinely planning to hold a rally called "March for Khilafat" today at Baitul Mukarram Mosque area.

In order to prevent the said activity, the CTTC operation team conducted a drive in the areas and detained the suspected accused.

A case was filed against the detained individuals at Uttara West Police Station under the Prevention of Terrorism Act 2009 (Amendment 2013).

During the initial interrogation, police said, the arrested have confessed that they are active members of the banned group Hizb ut-Tahrir.
