Dhaka's eyes on signing ASA with Uzbekistan for direct flight

DHAKA, March 8, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh has urged Uzbekistan to expedite the signing of the proposed Air Services Agreement (ASA) between the two countries to launch direct flights between Dhaka and Tashkent. 

The call was made when Bangladesh's Ambassador to Uzbekistan, Dr. Mohammad Monirul Islam, met with Uzbekistan's Deputy Minister of Transport, Choriyev Jasurbek Ergashevich, at the latter's office in Tashkent on Friday, according to a message received here today.  

During the meeting, the Bangladesh envoy emphasized that the launching of Uzbekistan Airways on the Dhaka-Tashkent route would be a game-changer in enhancing trade, investment, education, culture, and tourism between the two countries. 

In response, the Uzbek junior minister stated that the matter of finalizing the ASA remains under active consideration by his government. 

However, he also shed light on the existing challenges of launching Uzbekistan Airways on the Dhaka-Tashkent route and shared his insights on potential solutions. 

Ambassador Islam highlighted the current status and progress of Bangladesh-Uzbekistan relations and stressed the need to accelerate and strengthen bilateral ties. 

Deputy Minister Ergashovich reaffirmed Uzbekistan's commitment to strengthening relations with Bangladesh, citing the historical, cultural, and religious ties between the two nations. 

The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to working together to bring a new dimension and momentum to Bangladesh-Uzbekistan relations.
