DHAKA, Mar 11, 2025 (BSS) – Bangladesh has expressed strong hope that Japan would continue its valuable assistance in the country's infrastructure development efforts, highlighting the importance of sustained cooperation.

This aspiration was conveyed during the 7th Bangladesh-Japan Joint Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Meeting, held today in Tokyo, according to a message received here from Japan today.

The Bangladesh delegation was led by Principal Secretary to the Chief Adviser M Siraj Uddin Mia, while the Japanese side was represented by Vice Minister for Land, Infrastructure, and Transport Hirofumi Amakawa, and Assistant Vice Minister for Engineering and Housing, Yosuke Sutsumi.

The meeting primarily focused on the progress of ongoing projects being implemented with Japanese support. 

Key projects discussed included Third Terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, the Chittagong Sewerage Project, the Local Bridge Development Project, and the Kamalapur Multi-Modal Transport Hub Project.

Mia expressed his optimism that successful completion of these projects, with continued Japanese assistance, would provide a significant boost to Bangladesh's economy. 

He extended his gratitude to the Japanese government for its longstanding support in various sectors, particularly infrastructure development, and urged for the continuation of this vital cooperation.

The successful implementation of these projects will have a positive impact on Bangladesh’s economy, and Dhaka is committed to making these outcomes a reality, Mia stated. 

At the meeting, Senior Secretary of the Roads and Highways Division, Secretary of Civil Aviation and Tourism, Secretary of Railways, the CEO of the Public-Private Partnership Authority, and superintending engineer of Chittagong WASA made separate presentation providing updates on the progress of their respective projects.

In the session of the meeting, Bangladesh Ambassador to Japan, Mohammad Daud Ali and Japan Ambassador to Bangladesh Saida Shinichi joined the discussions. 

The focus of this session was on identifying potential future projects that could be undertaken with Japanese assistance and preparing proposals for the same.

Representatives from the Bangladesh embassy in Tokyo were also present during the discussion.
