HC rules over provision for speaker to swear in president

DHAKA, March 11, 2025 (BSS) - The High Court (HC) today issued a rule asking authorities concerned to explain why the provision for speaker to administer the oath to president, shall not be declared illegal.

The rule also wanted to know why the provision, which was included in the constitution though 15th amendment, shall not be declared contrary to the constitution of the 1972.

A High Court division bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Syed Enayet Hossain passed the order after holding hearing on a writ petition filed in this regard. 

The court asked law secretary, cabinet secretary and Supreme Court registrar general to reply the rule as respondents within eight weeks.

Advocate Omar Faruk moved the plea before the court.
