BSMMU observes World Glaucoma Week

DHAKA, March 11, 2025 (BSS) - BSMMU today observed World Glaucoma Week aiming to create awareness among the people and build a glaucoma-free world.

Ophthalmology department and Community Ophthalmology department of BSMMU jointly organised the event.

Marking the day, a rally headed by BSMMU vice chancellor Dr. MD Sahinul Alam, was brought out in front of the C block building of the university. 
 
Addressing the inauguration, BSMM VC said, "Increasing public awareness is must to prevent glaucoma. If the disease is identified at an early stage, it is possible to control and prevent the disease through treatment."

He urged on turning the university into a role model for glaucoma treatment, saying, we have a glaucoma clinic equipped with the most modern treatment facilities for eye diseases and treating glaucoma. 

'Besides, the university has internationally renowned faculties who are specialized in advanced medical services and researches in the fields of ophthalmology," he added.

The rally was attended by BSMMU Pro-VC (Administration) Prof Dr. Md. Abul Kalam Azad, treasurer Prof Dr. Nahrin Akhtar, registrar Prof Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam, director of the hospital Brigadier General Abu Noman Mohammad Mosleh Uddin, chairman of the Ophthalmology department Prof Dr. Syed Abdul Wadud, chairman of Community Ophthalmology department Prof Dr. Md. Shawkat Kabir, former chairman of Ophthalmology department Prof Dr. Md. Shafiqul Islam, former chairman Prof Dr. Md. Zafar Khaled, secretary general of the Bangladesh Glaucoma Society Prof Dr. Siddiqur Rahman, along with the doctors and officials of the Ophthalmology department and the Community Ophthalmology department, among others.
