DHAKA, March 11, 2025 (BSS) - BNP acting Chairman Tarique Rahman today said there may have different political ideologies but everyone is in agreement on the issue of re-establishing democracy and building a humane Bangladesh.

"Let's think about people's problems, talk about them. Let's try to highlight what reforms we have in this regard too," he said while addressing a pre-Iftar Mahfil event as the chief guest virtually.

Nationalist Democratic Movement (NDM) organized the Iftar party in honour of politicians and citizens at Gulshan Shooting Club here.

Tarique Rahman underlined need for increasing agricultural production saying, "If we want to keep the price of goods within purchasing power, we must increase agricultural production."

"How can we increase agricultural inputs? Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman increased the inputs in agricultural land only by digging canals. Where there was one crop, two-three crops were grown by supplying water at the right time. It was possible to control the trade by digging canals," he said.

He said a primary need of the people of this country with a population of 200 million is minimum medical care.

"Why are we political parties not raising the issue of how to ensure minimum medical care for the people of our country? Isn't that a reform?" he said.

He questioned if a proper education system cannot be built for future generations, then how is it possible to take this country forward, how is it possible to build a prosperous country.

Stating the importance of reform proposals to prevent environmental pollution, Tarique Rahman said environmental pollution is becoming very serious as the environment in Bangladesh as a whole is facing a threat.

"How can we reduce this environmental pollution? I think the environmental reform proposal is an important part. Because of this pollution, millions of people and children are becoming physically ill every year due to noise pollution, smoke pollution. All political parties should present plans to the nation on how to protect the entire country, including the capital, from this pollution," he said.

NDM Chairman Bobby Hajjaj, BNP's Mahadi Amin, AB Party's Mujibur Rahman Manju and Nagorik Oikya's Shahidullah Kaiser also spoke at the pre-iftar event.
