Over 6,000 children get kidney treatment from BSMMU

DHAKA, March 13, 2025 (BSS) – More than 6,000 children under the age of one have received medical care on kidney related ailments at BSMMU. 

Chairman of the Department of Pediatric Nephrology of BSMMU and President of the Pediatric Nephrology Society of Bangladesh Professor Dr Afroza Begum, gave this information in a seminar here today.

Of these, 5,493 have been treated in the outpatient department while 685 children got treatment after being admitted at the hospital and 38 others have been given dialysis services, she added.

The seminar titled 'Early Detection and Prevention of Renal Diseases in Children' was organized by the Department of Pediatric Nephrology at BSMMU.

Professor Dr Golam Main Uddin, Professor Dr Kabir Alam, Professor Dr Shamim Parvez, Associate Professor Dr Salma Jahan, Associate Professor Dr Syed Saimul Haque, Associate Professor Dr Tahmina Jasmine, Assistant Professor Dr Abdullah Al Mamun and Assistant Professor Dr Shanjida Sharmin attended it, among others.

Marking the World Kidney Day day, a discussion was also organized at the auditorium of the Super Specialized Hospital of BSMMU at the initiative of the Bangladesh Renal Association.

Secretary of the Health Services Division Professor Dr Md Sayedur Rahman attended it as the chief guest.

BSSMU Vice-Chancellor Professor Md Shahinul Alam, Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Professor Dr Md Abu Zafar, Founding President of the Kidney Foundation Professor Dr Harun Or Rashid and BSMMU Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr Md Abul Kalam Azad were present, amomg others, on the occasion.

Speakers in the discussion said that it is possible to prevent fatal kidney disease by raising awareness of all.

They urged people specially those who have diabetes and high blood pressure to maintain healthy lifestyle to avoid kidney related ailments.
