DHAKA, March 16, 2025 (BSS) - United Nations (UN) Secretary-General António Guterres has said the generosity Bangladesh has been showing by hosting Rohingyas in Cox's Bazar is absolutely outstanding.

"This generosity is absolutely outstanding," he told an iftar party hosted by the chief adviser in honour of him at Hotel InterContinental here on Saturday evening.

Guterres expressed his gratitude to Bangladesh for its extraordinary generosity to shelter over one million Rohingyas since it has been putting a dramatic impact on society, economy and environment in Cox's Bazar and its surrounding areas.

"...unfortunately so many borders are closed around the world. You have been a remarkable example that should be followed," the UN chief said.

He mentioned that the Rohingyas who are getting benefits from Bangladesh's hospitality had no other choice in life.

Expressing his total solidarity to the reform initiatives of Bangladesh, Guterres said it would help make the country one of the most perfect democracies in the world.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Adviser Prof Yunus sought UN support for combating misinformation.

"We need your blessings, we need your support particularly in one thing - misinformation that is killing us," he said.

About the visit of the UN chief to Bangladesh, he said the visit brings all the joy for the nation.

"We are on the half way of Ramadan but your visit started Eid earlier this time. You made the Eid beginning with your visit," the chief adviser said.
