DU set to observe Genocide Day

DHAKA, March 24, 2025 (BSS) - The Dhaka University (DU) authorities have undertaken elaborate programmes to observe the Genocide Day tomorrow, commemorating the atrocities of Pakistani occupation forces on Bangalee people in the black night of March 25 in 1971.

The observances will include a candlelight vigil, a screening of a documentary on March 25, and a discussion meeting at the university's Smriti Chirantan (Memory Eternal) Chattar at 7:15 pm with DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan in the chair, according to a DU press release issued today.

Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Saima Haque Bidisha, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed and Treasurer Professor Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury will be present as guests of honor in the discussion meeting.

At 8:15 pm, a candlelight vigil and tribute will be offered at the mass grave located in the Jagannath Hall premises.

In addition, at 10:30 pm, a one-minute blackout will take place across the university, excluding emergency facilities, in remembrance of the victims.

To conclude the day's observances, a special prayer will be held at the university's central mosque after Zuhr prayer, with additional prayers at other religious places of worship, to seek forgiveness for the souls of the martyred intellectuals.
