RANGPUR, March 31, 2025 (BSS) - Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) Vice-chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Showkat Ali has said there is no joy of Eid-ul-Fitr in Shaheed Abu Sayeed's family as the family celebrates the festival for the first time without him.

"The families of the martyrs of the July Revolution are not happy with Eid-ul-Fitr because they have not yet seen the proper justice for the killers of the martyrs of the July Revolution, including Abu Sayeed," he said.

He said while inquiring about the family members of Shaheed Abu Sayeed after handing over Eid items to his father Md. Mokbul Hossain, on behalf of the BRUR administration at village Babanpur in Pirganj upazila of Rangpur on Sunday afternoon, a press release said today.

Begum Rokeya University Registrar Dr. Harun-or Rashid was present at the time.

The Vice-chancellor said that Shaheed Abu Sayed is a member of the Begum Rokeya University family. His family celebrates Eid for the first time without Shaheed Abu Sayeed and it is very difficult for them.

"Being the guardian of Begum Rokeya University, I have come here to give Eid goods to the family of Shaheed Abu Sayed. But there is no joy of Eid in Abu Sayeed's family," he said.

He said that for the first time since the second independence was achieved through the July Revolution, the price of daily necessities remained at a tolerable level in the month of Ramadan.

"This has been possible for those who lost their lives in the July uprising like Shaheed Abu Sayeed," he said.

"If the maximum punishment for the culprits is ensured by completing the trial quickly, the families of the martyrs of the July Revolution, including the family of Abu Sayeed, and the countrymen will feel more joy than Eid.

Shaheed Abu Sayeed, a 12th batch brilliant student of the Department of English of Begum Rokeya University was killed in police firing in front of the university campus on July 16 last year during the anti-discrimination student movement.

Abu Sayeed's martyrdom immediately emerged as a symbol of the student movement, inspiring people from all walks of life to participate in the student-public uprising.

As a result, the fascist ruler Sheikh Hasina was forced to flee the country on August 5, ending her 16-year brutal rule.
