Russian envoy, 20 others visit Sundarbans

KHULNA, April 2, 2025 (BSS) - Russian Ambassador to Bangladesh Alexander Khokhin along with 20 members of his diplomatic team and their family members visited the Sundarbans to enjoy natural beauty of the world’s largest mangrove forest during the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays.

This year’s long Eid vacation has drawn a huge number of tourists to the Sundarbans. Of them, the envoy and his delegation chose to spend their time in the serene environment of the Sundarbans, forest officials confirmed it to BSS.

Accompanied by government officials, they visited different spots including Karamjal Wildlife Breeding Center of the Sundarbans on April 1-2,

From Eid day, not only Karamjal but also six other major tourist spots in the Sundarbans have been filled with over 10,000 local and international visitors, said the forest officials.

Karamjal Wildlife Breeding Center is one of the most attractive and accessible tourist spots in the country, drawing nature lovers in large numbers. Karamjal is home to various wild animals, including spotted deer, crocodiles, monkeys, and turtles.

Visitors are enchanted by the calls of these animals echoing through the dense forest.

The Russian Ambassador along with the members of his diplomatic team and his family visited Karamjal as part of an official tour.

They expressed their admiration for the beauty of the Sundarbans and its wildlife, particularly the spotted deer, crocodiles, and monkeys.

To enjoy the thrilling beauty of the deep forest, the delegation climbed the watch tower, which provided a panoramic view of the vast greenery and unique landscape of the Sundarbans.

Talking to BSS, Md. Azad Kabir, Officer-in-Charge of Karamjal Tourism and Wildlife Center under the Eastern Forest Division’s Chandpai Range said the number of tourists visiting the Sundarbans during this Eid holiday was significantly higher compared to previous years.

Of them, several foreign guests, including the Russian Ambassador visited Karamjal.

As per instructions from higher authorities, the forest department has been providing uninterrupted services to foreign tourists even during holidays.

Forest officials believe that the nine-day-long holiday and the currently peaceful political situation in the country have contributed to the increase in tourist arrivals.
