CUMILLA, Oct 5, 2025 (BSS) - A total of 12.68 lakh children will be brought under typhoid vaccination coverage in Cumilla.

This information was revealed at a view-exchange meeting with journalists at Cumilla Civil Surgeon Office here.

Chaired by Civil Surgeon Dr Ali Nur Bashir, the meeting was attended, among others, by World Health Organization (WHO) representative Dr Subhal Chandra Saha, Deputy Civil Surgeon Reza Mohammad Sarwar Akbar, Sadar Upazila Medical Officer Dr Zakaria Mohammad and Medical Officer Dr Faria Jahan.

The speakers at the meeting said the typhoid vaccination campaign must be made successful to create a healthy nation.

The government is providing this vaccine free of cost. All registered children should be brought to the vaccination camps by preventing rumours about the vaccine. For this, journalists can play a leading role. This huge campaign should be successful with the cooperation of everyone, they said.

At this time, they highlighted that typhoid germs spread quickly through contaminated food and water and can be fatal if not diagnosed and treated properly on time.

Vaccination is very important to prevent this disease. The speakers sought the effective role and cooperation of media workers in conveying accurate information about vaccination to all levels of society.

Civil Surgeon Dr Ali Nur Bashir said out of 1.1 lakh in the world, 10,000 people died in Bangladesh, which is a matter of great concern.

The target of 95 percent typhoid vaccine coverage in the district will be achieved, he said, adding that about 1.2 million registrations have already been completed in Cumilla, while registration is still going on.

The main theme of the meeting was presented by WHO representative Subhal Chandra Saha.

He said in the typhoid vaccination campaign starting from October 12, one dose of typhoid vaccine will be given free of cost to 1.268 lakh children aged 9 months to 15 years in Cumilla.

This campaign of 18 working days will continue till November 13.

Journalists working in the district participated in the advocacy meeting.
