BRUR VC calls for end to heinous crimes against humanity in Gaza

RANGPUR, April 7, 2025 (BSS) - Vice-chancellor (VC) of Begum Rokeya 
University, Rangpur (BRUR) Professor Dr. Md. Showkat Ali has called on the 
world community to immediately stop the heinous crimes against humanity 
committed by Israel in Gaza. 
 
"It has become crucial to build a strong global public opinion against the 
most heinous crimes against humanity committed by the Israeli army, to 
immediately stop the attack and come forward in support of the innocent 
Palestinians," he said. 
 
Prof Showkat Ali said this while addressing the post-protest solidarity rally 
organised by the university administration to protest the barbaric Israeli 
aggression in Gaza at the campus's Independence Memorial Square today as the 
chief guest. 
 
The BRUR administration also announced the suspension of all classes and 
examinations of the university on Monday in solidarity with the global "No 
Work No School" and "The World Stops for Gaza" programmes to stop the 
genocide in Gaza.
 
Earlier in the morning, a protest procession was taken out from Independence 
Memorial Square under the leadership of the VC. 
 
The procession circled the main gate of the university, nearby Parker Mour 
intersection, Shaheed Abu Sayeed Chattar, Shaheed Abu Sayeed Gate and came to 
the solidarity rally at the Independence Memorial Square. 
 
Teachers, students, officers and employees of the university participated in 
the solidarity rally. 
 
The VC said that the solidarity rally was organised to express solidarity 
with the outraged people of Bangladesh and the world in protest against the 
barbaric and heinous attacks by Israel on Gaza in Palestine. 
 
"People all over the world are witnessing the indiscriminate killing of 
innocent Palestinians and the atrocities of attacks on their homes," he 
remarked. 
 
Faculty of Engineering and Technology Dean Prof Dr. Md Mizanur Rahman, 
Registrar Dr. Md Harun-or Rashid, Director of Student Affairs' Office Prof 
Dr. Md Ilias Pramanik, Khatib of the university's central mosque Rakib Uddin 
Ahmed and students spoke. 
 
The speakers strongly demanded the immediate recognition of the Palestinian 
state and boycott of Israeli products and to create an economic blockade of 
Jews and build effective resistance against Israel's most barbaric 
aggression.
