Citizen leaders pledge support for KU campus expansion

KHULNA, April 9, 2025 (BSS) - The leaders of the civil society in Khulna have pledged unwavering support for the expansion and development of the Khulna University (KU) campus during a meeting with the Vice-Chancellor (VC), Professor Dr. Md. Rezaul Karim.

The view exchange meeting held on Tuesday (yesterday) at the conference room of the university's administrative building. Where the civic leaders demanded the transfer of the adjacent Fish Seed Farm and Linear Park to the university and declared that they would take to the streets if necessary to press their demands.

Key proposal included organizing the Ekushey Book Fair under the management of Khulna University and called for the preservation of the history of the movement for the university's establishment.

The VC Professor Dr Md Rezaul Karim said that although the number of students at KU is increasing, there is a shortage of land necessary for housing and research facilities. 

He emphasized the urgent need for land acquisition and called for the immediate resumption of the unfinished work on the Gallamari Bridge.

Later, a memorandum containing six demands was submitted to the Education Adviser on behalf of the Khulna Civil Society.

Prominent attendees include Convener of Khulna civil society S M Shahnewaz Ali, Secretary of Sushasoner Jonny Nagorik (SUZON) adv Kudrat-e-Khuda, convener of Khulna Nagorik Samaj freedom fighter advocate AFM Mohsin, member secretary advocate Babul Howlader, addressed the meeting.
